On Discord, you can appoint people as moderators to help monitor conversations. I know other authors who use Discord for their street teams. Facebook is also a free method. With either, you can live-stream and interact directly with fans. Patreon is an option where different tiers can support your work with rewards such as short stories, polls to name characters, etc…
I run a discord server, Wandering Worlds Book Club Hub. I really want to incorporate a section of the server to support Indy authors. We already have the Collab Corner but not a lot of activity on it so far. I am super interested in have a conversation to see if we can find a way to work together to continue supporting the author community. We are a pretty new server only 200 members. I would love to give you access to my server if that would help you in some way.
Discord defeantly is an option as a lot of streamers and youtubers use it as a way to talk to their communties. Though maybe you could find a way to connect the substack to the discord? Either that or have the Substack as the place it's similar if you decide to do stuff like stream.
I also think maybe doing book streams may be a good way to make work. There are some authors and artists who stream their process for those who are absolutely weather it be on Youtube or Twitch. (you can monitize it as well eventually if you end up liking doing it, even if it's a patron only connection which some do. Twitch though is more public so just be aware). It may also be a good way to avertise a bit more Dark Mode Books because honestly I was considering joining if you were going to allow Kobo books when I publish my first Short story collections there. Maybe it may be good to also branch out from the Kindle ecosystem because of how many issues it's caused for a lot of indie authors montary wise. (I'm not saying to take the books out that already in the system, I'm refering to the new books you may publish in the future because you do deserve to get payed for your work well.)
I mean if you could do mini dark mode each month I’m sure people will pay for it? Have you looked into Patreon or something. I subscribe to a few indie authors on there who post their books by chapters
I don't think she would be interested in charging a fee because she wants it to be free for both authors and readers. But definitely people would probably be willing to do a mini dark mode and pay a fee. I am finding myself that sometimes when money gets involved it takes something away from the experience and creates expectation instead of gratitude. That doesn't mean it's always that way of course 😄

Slack is a good option. But I also fuck with substack so either is fine
I'm available almost all the time, if you need assistance with dark mode I'm willing to help. Please feel free to read out to me.
